Universally challenged: Exeter University in major general knowledge fail*
I love University Challenge. It gives students a chance to be on telly, Jeremy Paxman a chance to be rude to people other than politicians and my Dad a chance to show off every Monday evening. But the best thing about it is this: it’s bloody hard.
If you come away with half a dozen correct answers, you’ve done well. If you reach double figures, you’ve done very well. More than that, though, and you need to spend more time with your family and friends.
If, however, you don’t get any, you’re an idiot. If you do this while you’re on telly, you’re an ultra idiot. But if, like Exeter University, you only get 15 points (that’s a starter and follow up question) you should just give up on life (and certainly higher education) altogether.
Apparently, their performance “didn’t go down particularly well” in the union bar, according to one member of the team. But another member said that he had fulfilled a childhood dream by taking part. Yes, but it’s a bit like getting picked to play in an FA cup final only to score two own goals and get sent off, then, as you’re walking off, have your shorts fall down.

Armando Iannucci is a genius. The team Exeter University entered into University Challenge most certainly were not.
*I’m probably just bitter because they knocked out Sheffield in the previous round.
